Kooky Spooky Haunted House Playset

Here it is...the ultimate Holy Grail of toy collecting (at least in my mind). What could be more fun than having a nice haunted house playset on which to display the Kooky Spooky Family? Below is a copy of the dealer/distributor flyer that describes the big event that appeared in Sunday papers on Feb. 9th, 1968 all across America. It was a mail-in offer for the Kooky Spooky Haunted House Playset.

I know of only two sets in existence, and I've lost touch with one of the owners. I'm waiting to hear from the other concerning getting some nice close-up scans for posterity. I'd sell entire family members to get my hands on one of these cool playsets!

Here's an actual picture of the mailing envelope the haunted house arrived in:

As you can tell, this was a thin cardboard playset, mailed in a paper envelope. Is it any wonder that these things are as rare as hen's teeth? How many cardboard boxes do you have, that have lasted 35 years? See what I mean? Well, time for a peek at the actual haunted house, isn't it? Here we go...

Here are some new, closer shots of various parts of the house. I was lucky enough to get some scans from a dealer on ebay and also bought a repro of the house for further examination.

Here you can see the truly creepy artwork. Love that ghastly green color!

There's the corner, another close up, with a piece missing off the side.

Some simple instructions came printed on one of the "windows", as shown below...

How about a cleaner, more color-accurate shots of the house front? Assuming your monitor is properly calibrated, below you can see the original ghastly green color of the haunted house.

These are the tabs that you folded behind the house in order to display the Kooky Spooky figures (this is where they stood).

The back of the house was plain white. Yes, I know, not very exciting compared to the front.

Let's take a walk back up front and see the house standing, ready for display, with the correct color showing...

A note on the color. I've tried to recreate the exact color from the repro copy I have. I do not have the actual original, so I cannot be 100% sure of the exact color. However, the dealer who sold me the repro assured me that the copy was the exact color. Scans tend to vary a tad in color due to proximity of the light to the camera, etc. The front of the house shown above is the proper color for the house, the actual color you would see it as, if you had it out in a brightly lit room with good lights, or out in sunlight.

I swear, I think I'd sell a kidney to get a set of Kooky Spookys and the Haunted House to display them on! Wouldn't that make the most excellent Halloween decoration? I'm hoping to find a nice mint copy of the original house so that I can get some closer scans put u and then we can all see the great detail of this magnificent lost piece of vintage toy collecting.

If ANYONE has a Kooky Spooky Haunted House for sale, PLEASE let me know (just click the email link on the main page)! Even if it's not for sale, perhaps you'd be kind enough to allow me to post some close up scans for the fans?
