Source for banking and money in AD&D

Post by Halaster Blackcloak »

I'm really having trouble remembering where it was, but there was a 1E or 2E resource or article or something about dealing with banking in a medieval setting. My players are really wanting to have a Gringot's (Harry Potter style) bank to store their gold and what not and I'm trying to get some basic ideas to get me started. Does anyone recall reading something like this? It had to do with medieval banking, land deeds, and handling PCs' money.

With trove access and crossing off editions or non-d&d, one of the articles might help. And one could wing it i guess. I'm not sure if it was ever addressed in the splat resource books. I always kept it simple but looking at it now.... a bank in x with no communication to y or z means they have no idea what you have in said bank. It'd have to come down to notes with kingdom seal and signatures and perhaps a code only members of the kingdom bank committee knows.

I was going to cull 3e and non D&D but at times some articles have good ideas even if mechanics are completely different. I enjoyed the fur/skin/resource trade articles.

Other ideas are monster museums, science xeno foundations that study aliens/monsters/races, magical resource agencies, treasure hunting guilds, and more. Depending on how one works guilds you could have all sorts of financial trade and holdings with perks. Its a bit of a modern concept in a ways like clubs but high fantasy can be whatever.

I'm still trying to get my hands on Thieves' Guild 2e box and the Thieves Guild #2 module. Ah ebay.... expensive. If only someone would just scan theirs and pdf it all.
