There were Strength bows in the rules, IF you have a specially made bow that can take advantage of high strength, then you can do additional damage. Otherwise, no matter what your strength is, you are limited by the bow itself, You can't pull the bow back further because the arrow then fires into yo...

XML files might have been for use with OpenRPG since the game tree supports XML. I might have to look at those at some point, though I haven't played AD&D via OpenRPG yet, I have played a few other systems with it.

Go to www.rpgsheets.com and search for AD&D, a few sheets appear that way. There might be more with other search criteria used. I've found several decent sheets for games in there, though you have to wade through a few not so good ones to find them :) Mira (When everything's coming your way, you...

Makes me wish I had some Gimp skills. I would make a t-shirt with the old 1E players handbook on the front with know your roots in text underneath. Then on the back a plug for the Back in Print Project. What all would you need to do that? To me, that sounds quite easy to do in Gimp, but taking it f...

I just wanted to comment on Halaster's thoughts regarding how 4e is becoming more and more disconnected from the tabletop in relation to its Digital Initiative movement. I just watched this video, and I think it exemplifies pretty well the overall direction WotC is wanting to take the game. Well, a...

I think I should take a moment to explain my terms. Robin Law wrote in his book, "Robin's Laws of Good Gamemastering", 7 player styles: tactician, power gamer, method actor, storyteller, butt-kicker, specialist, and casual gamer. These are styles that exist outside of any rule system. Out...

The game system defines mechanics and setting. Feel of the game is campaign controlled (home brew, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Forgotten Realms, etc). Style of play is DM and player controlled. I said in a previous post, on this thread, that 2E extended D&D beyond the dungeon. It brought in non-weapon...

From a 2E perspective, there really isn't much of a difference between the two, an illusionist isn't any different than any other specialist mage, an enchanter or transmuter for example. It was in 1E where they were quite different, having access to completely different spell lists. (with some overl...

I spent MANY hours playing NWN :) One of the few games that runs on Mac as well as Windows. Even had a persistant world on a server for a while, though there weren't many people on it. I had lots of fun exploring it, as well as many other user created modules. I did go through the original story lin...

What we do to fix it is save the code from Unther's page and replace the main page with that code :) He figured out how to center it, we just have to copy that code (from View Page Source) and point the pictures and links to the right places. I can do that with the rest of the stuff. I assume you'll...

The toolset is definitely what gave NWN the longevity it's had, there is literally thousands of user-created modules for it. Many of the 1E and 2E modules were translated into it, it was fun playing through some of the old classics, even though the feel was a little different due to the 3E engine. I...

Monster THACO has always been a little different than PC THACO, and I've noticed that (particularly for giants) that Str is never factored in for to hit or damage. I've always figured that the numbers listed were for the critter if not using a weapon. Having a weapon should be an advantage vs unarme...

create a true dual client DM program that has Fog of War, layers for revealing various game features, and as many visual aids a DM could use in combination with miniatures on the tabletop. Have you looked at OpenRPG and what it can do? I know it can do the 'fog of war' stuff, and you can decide how...

Thieves Guild used perception way back when, using the average of Int and Wis ( (Int + Wis)/2 ) That's what I have been using, though I generally give thieves a better chance to notice things. I really hated 1E poisons always being save or die, I definitely prefer having poisons doing other things. I'd actually changed it long before 2E came out, it never made any sense to me that spider poison wouldn't paralyze instead since they would want to feast on the still living critter. Level cap...

Fire giant mummies are an obvious one, I used them long ago. Since fire giants are immune to fire, the normal tactic of fire vs mummies is ineffective, and mummies take half damage from everything else :D One creature I had a LOT of fun with was something I made up myself, I called them fiends (they...

I'd think those that played a game without much depth would have moved on to the 3.x rules, with all the crunching? I could be wrong though. Just seems to me that if you're not into the in depth role playing, and not into the game options, that the game wouldn't be all that fun for you. Though I do ...

I love the specialty priests, and when they came out with the books (I think Powers and Pantheons?) that detailed the FR ones, we immediately decided never to use the 'generic cleric' ever again.
