Frost giant conundrum

Post by Halaster Blackcloak »

As I'm writing material for the adventure I mentioned on the other thread about the Xmas game I write every year, I realized something...

In the entry for Frost Giants in the 2E MM, it lists their MOV as 12 (15). But they don't explain what the 15 is. Any idea? Usually, it will say something like 12, Sw 10 for swimming speed or 12, Fl 36 (C) for flying. With the frost giant it' simply 12 (15). No explanation. Frost giants don't fly or swim so it can't be that. 15 in snow? That doesn't seem logical. Even a giant will be slowed in deep snow, not sped up. Thoughts?

Since iirc their great AC is cause they wear ARMOR, perhaps that 15 move, is if they are Unarmored, but 12 while IN armor??
It's not who you kill, but how they die!

The only problem there is that it's not consistent with any other monster or rule.

Sliding on their belly downhill like a penguin or on a ice toboggan (sp). Snowboarding/skiing

Never broken, he'll be back for more
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable
Forged for the war, he's unbreakable

Couldn't find one that looked like he was going to go skiing so he was close enough. GNU Giants Neve Ultra?
