Escape From Undermountain (old NWNO Module)

Ironworks Escape From Undermountain Mod

I was looking for the current map layouts for UM from edition to edition (obviously the later maps are annoying and not the GFX style I prefer) when I hit this site. I haven’t tried any NWN mods even though I wanted to try the Pool of Radiance one. I just don’t stay at the computer much. More of my time is outside in the field digging or weed cutting than anything.

Yet, I find this. From a casual glance this combines some of Waterdeep with ROI I&II and Eye of the beholder. Pity the scope of the maps in the game are smaller than the actual dungeons and this was an online version to play with many players. If completed to scale.... it would have been huge.

I don’t knowif they incorporated stuff from the Descent to Undermountain DOS game. In CRPGs I tend not to care if they stuff other content because computer games, so far, can NOT be the fully immersive experience as a group of table top players and a good DM.

Still, take a gander.

I always wondered about Descent to Undermountain. Never got it, but always wanted to try it.

There’s a huge cheat to basically ghost in the walls to the end guy and kill him like a ghost in the walls and he can’t strike back.

Buggy as fuck. Honestly... maybe good for the maps and monster item placement and sub story “IF” one was going to incorporate it and EOB 1 into their tabletop Undermountain campaign.

That’s a big maybe with a lot of reworking.

I’ll find some reviews. I can probably link to vids. I’m not sure the 3D engine used. Back then I doubt they could ever do UM Justice. What they should have used was the EOB engine (maybe EOB III).

Here’s a Descent to Undermountain Playthrough

For modern day they should use an engine like this:
Legend ofGrimlock Intro
Lets play LOG
Legend of Grimlock II

There is also Vaporum

Problems is for parties I like turn based tactical combat. The game features only 90 degree turns so rough caves, diagonals, slices, stairs, etc really can’t be explored the way you’d want. For that you’d want some advance unreal game engine or fallout 4 etc.

And of course you want to be able to do all the crazy shit you can for a tabletop game. I will say Skyrim, arena games have shit ton of books to read and stuff. Computer algorithms can’t replace the fantasy mind.
