I guess the silly thing to me is that your health, strength and vitality is completely unchanged, yet for some reason you can't put your finger on how to pick a given lock, perform a certain fancy sword flourish or understand that scroll you understood yesterday. It really is just attacking an eleme...

I just don't think it makes any common-sense sense. It's designed to whack you with pure game mechanics, attacking from the formal structure of the rules instead of something that's reasonable from a real-world point of view. It's the game mechanics version of losing your car driver's license for be...

Well said! With unimaginable sadly I must concur that "our hobby" is dead, with respects to most people. When I think of the countless hours I've spend writing campaign material, working on adventures, paining minis, etc it makes me really sad to think that virtually no new players will fo...

Personally I'm not a huge fan of magical aging; I reserve it for very special situations. I like magical level drains even less as to me they make absolutely no logical sense at all. You physically remain the same but lose just surgically specific skills related to game levels- really? That's the st...

Super powered magic items are really tempting for nOOb DMs but as everyone knows they create more problems than they solve. A powerful item is an easy McGuffin for lazy DMs but the problem is that you have to keep topping the last one and you have to deal with those items in the game. How do you cha...

Yeah, you're right- some of them are pretty stupid. The supposed "game balance" is behind some of them, and maybe a lack of imagination is part of it, too. It makes no sense for a creature that lives in the cold to have a cold weapon! In other cases it seems like the designer just pulled r...

Yeah, room for cool effects. Also good opportunities to re-imagine how planar travel might work. I read once that the ancient Irish felt that there were two worlds, ours and a spirit world. The veil that separates the two is thinnest in old lonely places like bogs and mountain tops. That makes sense...

I think they're infinite but oriented in "planes" located in a hypothetical fourth dimension. Infinite but they intersect at points. That's actually how quantum physicists theorize the universe might actually work (ie 'brane theory for "membranes").

I see no problem with stacking 'em. Natural healing is pretty slow at best. I would rather have the PCs spend their time adventuring, not sitting at home with a spreadsheet figuring out their hit points! #@
