Someone notified me that Planet ADnD is down also (might be back up like that site is a big deal anymore). BTW, have any of you used any 3rd ed stuff and converted it backwards (monsters, spells, items, adventures, etc.). There's a lot of crap but I find myself picking through a handful of t...

Have you looked at OpenRPG and what it can do? I know it can do the 'fog of war' stuff, and you can decide how much to reveal on any map. (I worked with the developer on the OSX side of that, it worked under Windows, now it also works on OSX) It's free, so it doesn't hurt to try it out :) I'll chec...

I don't know what it is, but I absolutely love the idea of using one of those until I see the pictures, and then I get the feeling that it's taking something away from the game. Maybe I'm just too gun-shy after seeing the effects of video games on the hobby, and afraid it would give the game a vide...

Varl, maybe you've posted it before, but can you remind us what you're using for projector mapping? Software/hardware/cost/any caveats you can think of would be really helpful. I'd love to give it a go if I ever had the time to make up some nice maps. Here's an example of a similar setup to what I ...

RE: laptops - agreed, they can be a great DM tool. But you should have seen this table with 5 of them sitting there. I don't know how you'd even reach the chips around them without knocking over your drink. Yeah, that'd be a bit much. RE: hellboy - I'm too lazy to post a picture, but google image s...

These are the same people that went nuts over the splat books in 2e, then switched to 3<=X<4 e and really started the ball rolling on this silly power escalation and kewl-powerz trend and now they're surprised that it's gotten out of control. Serves them right. Those were the same assholes that chi...

I don't have a great answer here. The points about too many undeveloped rooms are quite valid. What if my party turns right at that fork, into the massive grey eastern area of the dungeon. Either I need to get creative real fast, or find some way to railroad them back into the developed section of ...

I played in a brief Traveller game back in the 90s with some friends, and while the game itself was interesting, let's just say the GM had a thing for Kafers. We were charged with a recovery mission to retrieve a lost jumpship from some planet, and my character's speciality was jumpship flight exper...

When it comes to room configuration inside dungeons, if you really want to convey a certain type of feel towards each level, you have to consider both the dungeon's history and its current inhabitants. I feel the history of a dungeon explains a lot when it comes to determining its shape and room str...

Which sources were you using as I'm curious? I've been contemplating on doing this for my own writing uses as well. The Blacksway website, Wizards has its own monster forum, the myriad of user websites linked from many locations that have created new creatures, and just plain ole Google searches ma...

Sunny!!! Man, I'm from the Midwest, I'm not used to all this rain, LMAO, really though, it's not that bad, Heh. I'm serious. You've never heard that Sequim is really the sunniest spot in western washington? I know that means only inches of rain a year, compared to feet, but it's something. I...

So, the moral of the story Halaster just wrote must be: even if you're playing a lich, don't let your desire for power supercede your judgment...or your friends. That's where the lich made its fatal mistake. It trusted Halaster the character to give him power as one of his apprentices, but why would...

Also, while it may not live up to your expectations or desires Halaster, I wouldn't mind an Undermountain expansion that had no art other than the map. Art is only useful to me anyway when important props or areas can be shown to the players instead of having to describe them, but hey, we're DMs. We...
