Re: How do PRIESTS identify magic items???

True, with low level spells it's the priest's faith that powers it, but the way I'd see it is that it's still divine magic, not arcane magic. So it shouldn't have such a deleterious effect on the priest. I can't imagine a priest being so drained merely from praying to his deity for such a low level ...

Re: How do PRIESTS identify magic items???

I like it a lot, overall! Only two quibbles I have with it: 1. I don't see the need to make it less effective than the wizard spell identify . If anything, I would say a priest would have a better chance than a wizard, since the info is coming from a god/divine source, not a mortal one. For sake of ...

Re: How do YOU handle Speak with dead

According to the spell description, a dead spirit of different alignment can refuse to answer. But it's oh so much more fun for the dead to give false information or confusing information rather than simply refusing to answer. As for the second part of the question, remember that according...

Re: How do PRIESTS identify magic items???

I usually have them use use spells such as divination , commune or augury , something from the priest spell list. Not a strictly by-the-book use of the spell, but something has to serve that purpose. I've also allowed the priest to simply fast and pray and make offerings in order to receive a vision...

Re: Ranger's species enemy, how strict are you?

Awesome question and topic! I've never really given it much thought. In 1E, rangers automatically got "giant class" humanoids as species enemies. In 2E, they got to pick a specific species such as orcs or goblins. The rule is written strangely, saying the ranger must pick a species enemy b...

Re: Rings of Returning??

Hmmm. Not ringing a bell off hand. I'm still wondering if it was a Dark Sun specific magic item. Maybe in a module? I think the Dark Sun stuff came out after the Magical Encyclopedias, didn't it? I can't remember. If so, that could be why it's not in the encyclopedia.

Re: Map sizes & printing

The hard part is finding mint condition maps. Most box set maps have been opened an used, so it's hard to get a really crisp copy. Myself, I've been wanting to get a nice set of Undermountain maps scanned into a crease-less file so I can print them up on high quality paper and frame them.

Assuming rings of returning are not actually r ings of spell turning , could this have been a magical item detailed somewhere in the Dark Sun materials (modules, etc)? Re: Specialist mages and Bracers of Defense...

I just think the entire specialist wizard system is fucked up. That's why I went back to two magic user classes - wizards and illusionists. [ Note : the class name "magic user" never made sense. Wizard works better.] I also made druids their own class, not a sub-class of priest. They have ...

Re: Specialist mages and Bracers of Defense...

Personally, I hate specialist mages now. I don't at all like how they did specialist mages. I never even saw the use for them. I liked it better when there were magic users and a separate class called illusionist. I always saw illusions as a distinctly different class than normal magic users. Want t...
