Re: 1E Demon names - never noticed this!
I never liked the art for Demogorgon or Orcus in 1E. When Grenadier did the miniature for Demogorgon and gave him reptilian heads, that to me made more sense (and looked better) than the mandrill heads, since Demogorgon is served by reptiles and dinosaurs. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hoHXXuJGtKs/S8O3i...

Re: How do YOU handle Speak with dead
I agree, but I'm careful though, not to purposely screw the players. I despise DMs who, for example, always feel the need to "warp" wishes. My stance if, if the only choices you see are "a wish will unbalance my campaign or I have to wreck their wish and twist it", that person is...

Re: Ioun stones and level raises??
Typo. I meant half a dozen. But do you understand what I'm saying? A lowly potion protects from up to 6 attacks from a wight before being drained, while one hit destroys a permanent magic item? That's not making any sense to me.

Site issues tonight?
Is anyone else noticing the site is very slow to load tonight? or other quirky issues? I know Hostmonster was upgrading php this week, but tonight it seems like it's taking a minute or so for pages to load. Only our forum seems to be having this issue, no other site online that I've tried, so it mus...

Re: Ioun stones and level raises??
That's where I think the issue becomes unbalanced. A weak potion (a temporary magic item) can withstand a half dozen or more attacks from a wight before being depleted, whereas a powerful permanent item takes one hit and is destroyed. To me that's not balanced.

Re: I don't like anti-magic shell!
I'd differentiate the horn of blasting because it has an actual magic effect, i.e. you can't simply block your ears with wax to overcome it. The magic is the force that is the effect. The way I try to break it down is this... Is the effect being blocked actually magic (i.e. formed of magic) or is it...

Re: Ioun stones and level raises??
To keep balance, and since it says "adds 1 level", I would only add a level to the higher of the two classes. Adding it to both would be adding two levels.

Re: 2e mostly. Prot from evil, BLOCKS all charm/domination??
I'm not saying it's necessarily a mistake per se, only that I consider it a mistake in that it was an ill-thought-out description. If it also works on neutral beings, then why is it called protection from evil ? It should have been named something else ( protection from enemies ?) because the name o...

I don't like anti-magic shell!
I have never been happy with aspects of the anti-magic shell spell. Specifically, the ability to block breath weapons and possibly gaze and voice attacks. The spell says it blocks "magic and magical spell effects". I have never considered the dragon's breath weapon, for example, to be a ma...

Paladin's inherent protection from evil vs. holy avenger sword
Extrapolating from the other thread, let's discuss the paladin and his protection from evil ability. Paladins create a protection vs. evil within in a 10' radius. Personally, I have always thought this should have been a 10' diameter , not a 10' radius , as a 10' radius equates to a 20' diameter , w...

Re: 2e mostly. Prot from evil, BLOCKS all charm/domination??
Good lord! I can't believe I overlooked this thread for days now! :? Lots of points to address. Let's see. First, as far as psionics goes, I hate psionics in AD&D. To me it belongs in Gamma World, not AD&D. It's more a sci-fi feel than a fantasy one. I never have used psionics in my AD&D...
