I don't understand how you can play in a dungeon you've made, and then only give the DM a few chances to modify it. Wouldn't it be more fun to play through a published module (I'm thinking A2: Secret of the Slavers Stockade as I type this  ) that you've DMed yourself the week before? At least ...

One campaign began with the local lord supplying the 1st-level characters with "whatever they need, within reason." They made a list sort of like this: 1 leather armour +1 3 chainmail +1 2 longswords +1 1 footman's mace +1 1 shortsword +1 etc. This is what they got: 2 leather armour 4 chai...

I've always tried to limit magic in my games, so when my players have wanted to sell of their magic items, they tended to get screwed on the price. Player: "This is a +3 sword!" Buyer: "It's a what now?" Player: "A magic sword." Buyer: "Really? Well! I'll give you ...

A house rules compilation, well categorized, would be awesome. A Rules Cyclopedia, of sorts. A Houserules Cyclopedia. That's something we could all post about. Fer instance, I'd like to hear about houseruled Proficiencies systems. I kinda like the more complicated variety presented in Skills & ...

I always have my players start at 1st level. When my players complained that 1st level characters didn't have enough hp to survive, I came up with two rules quicky houserules: Racial HD and minimum hp for creatures determined by size . Racial HD is simply 1d6 hp for being a human, elf, dwarf, etc. T...

Re: Uh, who's Jarkahl the Changing?

...An early lab accident left Jarkahl constantly transmuting parts of his body at random. I made an NPC like that, back in the early 80s, except for him it was a curse. He had to be careful or peasants would try to burn him. It also reminds me of another NPC I made who was a sentient illusion. If e...

Hmm, apparently it never made it into print! There's an ice golem described in Dragon #44 (for 1E), Dragon #317 (for 3.5E), and Dungeon #87 (for 3E). MC Annual #3 had a complete index up to that point, and there's no Ice Golem on it yet. Nope, can't find nothing in any of the online indexes I know of.

I always wanted medieval and political, so I favoured Greyhawk over all the others until I came to know Birthright. I'd probably still be playing in the Birthright world if they had continued expanding the setting.
