I don't think it's necessarily the Negative Material Plane, but any extra planar connection. Maybe because I grew up with 1E, and demons and devils are turnable there . (and those have no connection to the Negative Material Plane). The Guide to Hell , a 2nd edition supplement, has a Cleric turning ...

Calling them the dangerous levels fits the "D" theme, but still sounds a bit off, because it almost implies that those levels are the most dangerous. They're not. Hmmm. :? that would be made clear by the "Deadly" level of course, and Deadly is by definition more than just Danger...

I just thought of something. I was puzzling over what we will call the re-working of Ruins of Undermountain II. It hit me that ideally, the releases would most accurately titled this way (with the levels each covers in parentheses): Ruins of Undermountain ( Levels 1-3 ) Ruins of Undermountain II: T...

As for the Tarrasque I think Halaster would have already killed it if it had been there. It would be too big of a trophy not to have done so, and too dangerous to leave around. The real problem is where to store it. It needs lots of room! It stirs for a week or two on average about once a year (eve...

So my first session back with the DM hat is complete. It was an amazing success. Well, after the THAC0 discussions that is. Had a few concerns early on with one player wanting to play a monk but only remembering monks from 1E or the 3.5 monks. We eventually game to terms. She is now a monk that wor...

Re: Which is your favorite published setting and why?

If we ignore for right now the various homebrew campaigns (since most people prefer their own homebrew over anything else), which published campaign setting is your favorite and why? DarkSun simply because it is so differnt from any other setting. mere survival is a reward and a steel dagger is a w...

I've always found the ranges/penalties TSR gave bows to be very generous. I'm not sure about the merits of extending short/medium ranges much more either. At a certain point there should be some penalties, regardless of how fast you can make the arrow fire. i'm not argueing agaist this, what I am s...

My only concern with this idea revolves around my own understanding (and experience) of accuracy. The further that you have to shoot/throw, the harder it gets to accurately hit a target and I don't think raw strength improves your accuracy. So I'd think that you could certainly shoot further (i.e. ...

Strength based range vs set ranges

having played AD&D and other various games, I noticed that D&D non-mechanical weapons, have set weapons ranges, so that no matter what your strength is, be it 10 or 20, you can both equally throw a rock, bola, spear, or fire a bow the same distance. however I think we all know/realize thats ...
