Forgotten Comic Book Characters
Intro Page

Over the 30-odd years of comic book collecting I've done, I've come upon some really...well...interesting characters. ;-) Being blessed with an unusual sense of taste, I found myself enjoying appearances by characters that usually garner the reaction "Who the hell is THAT?", if not an outright "You've got STRANGE tastes buddy!"

Be that as it may, I've decided to share with you some of my favorites, a few dear and cherished characters that I grew up with. Some of them are rather obscure, others just unused for awhile. In some cases with good reason, some might say. ;-) Anyway, if nothing else, it gives me a reason to scan in and showcase some relatively forgotten Silver Age and Bronze Age covers and pages. Since I'm just now starting on rebuilding my long lost comic collection, and there are characters I don't have scans of yet, those will have to wait. But in the meantime I'll post those I have pics of.

While designing this page, I had to decide which characters to include, and which not to. One thing to keep in mind is that they call me Vintage Bob for a reason. I'm obsessed with the Silver and Bronze Ages of comics. The Modern Age stuff, for me, is simply not on the same level. Also, I stopped actively collecting new comics throughout the 90's, with the exception of some Marvel stuff for a very short time. So characters listed here could well have appeared numerous times throughout that decade and I wouldn't know about it. Hmmm...well, given who the characters are, that's unlikely, but still...I just wanted it noted that I'm focusing on the Silver/Bronze Ages.

So...what criteria did I use in picking the characters to include here? Mainly, the decision hinged on how relatively unknown a character was. When I asked other comic collectors if they remembered a particular character and got a blank stare in return, that was a good sign! ;-) Many of the characters appeared in only one issue or one storyline. Others were used more often, but very rarely. I also decided to leave out characters that were relatively forgotten but who appear on other websites. The criteria is just used as a guide, not a hard and fast rule. Bottom line, I wanted to have FUN!

Finally, for the most part I tried to do all the scans myself, and did my best to make them nice and clear. I had to strike a balance between making the pics large enough to read and see clearly and yet making them small enough not to take forever to load. I tended to err on the side of clarity since so many people these days are getting cable and DSL hookups, and even those of us stuck on 56K modems won't experience that long a load time. I figure for a tribute site like this, it's worth any small wait to get a better image. So, I hope you enjoy this trip through the land of yesterday!

Oh yeah! I almost forgot...if you see any characters you'd like more pics of, or know of a forgotten character that you think deserves a spot on this page, please email me and LMK. I'm always looking for more obscure, forgotten characters and information on their apprearances. Well...take a walk down memory lane, have fun, and see if you spot any long-forgotten favorites. :-) Thanks!
