BATTLE # 2 & 3

Ironman vs. Hawkeye
Mantis and Black Panther vs. Dr. Strange

One of the more fun and exciting battles, we get to see all that anger between Ironman and Hawkeye from way back boiling over! It's a back and forth battle, although in the end Hawkeye gets his part of the Evil Eye because Ironman stops to save some endangered construction workers. Hmmm...sounds similar to the Vision/Scarlet Witch vs. Silver Surfer battle. Well, they HAD to do stuff like that, otherwise the Avengers would have won! ;-) Hawkeye is pretty cocky in the fight, needing to prove himself, and he sure does! I love the art Sal Buscema does in this saga. Check out the great flow of action, the smooth transition from panel to panel. Nice!

The second battle in this issue is a bit less exciting. During the actual combat, a farmer comes out and shoots at the heroes for trespassing on his farmland. Mantis takes him out, then confronts Dr. Strange (Black Panther was stunned from a fall at this point). What I liked so much about this battle is that Dr. Strange takes on Mantis, one of the best martial artists in the Marvel Universe, and she freaks when he avoids her blow: "Only three others have ever done so!". It's a nice peek into Dr. Strange's other skills, and I wish there had been more room for them do do a bit more physical battling. Unfortunately, on the next page Dr. Strange blasts both Avengers with a magical spell and flies away with the Evil Eye. ;-(
